Jackson and Sharpton to Protest Savage
Posted by royters on July 22, 2008
Michael Savage, host of the radio program “Savage Nation”, stirred controversy when he stated that autistic children are faking their disorder and need parental discipline. Many consider the remarks unacceptable and want Savage fired, but Savage stands by his comments. As a result of the brewing controversy, Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have decided to boycott Savage’s show and are calling on advertisers to pull their ads from his program. In a statement released by the two, each noted that “Just as we protested racial injustice with the Jena 6, Tawana Brawley, and Don Imus, we will do so here. We will not stop until this bigot is off the air.”
ROYTERS reporters contacted representatives of the two civil rights leaders in order to learn more about the specifics of the planned boycott only to learn that the plan had been retracted when it was learned that Mr. Savage did not identify any African-Americans with specificity. “Had he referred to an African-American by name or team association, we certainly would be boycotting. But he didn’t, so we really could care less. I mean, for our purposes, he’s just going after a bunch of generic white retarded kids, and that’s fine with us.”

I have made the suggestion, that we move Savage into a home and I will fill it with my autistic clients, and he won’t be allowed to leave for a year . . . let’s see how fake that is.
