Gramm Sticks Head In Own Ass
Posted by royters on July 10, 2008
Former Senator Phil Gramm of Texas recently commented that the economic “problems” in America are the result of America being comprised of “a nation of whiners“. Gramm said this while cashing his federal pension check paid for courtesy of the American taxpayers who are losing their homes in record numbers while trying to deal with rising fuel and grocery prices.
Gramm argued that Americans need to get tough like him. “I have to work hard every single day for that federal pension check I live off of. I mean, all I had to do to earn it was spend a bunch of everyone else’s money to get elected, show up occasionaly to vote an issue if I felt like it, and let the federal budget spiral out of control while doing nothing about it, which resulted in China owning our Treasury. All I did in my entire career was help pass Gramm-Rudman-Hollings, and that didn’t even do anything to deal with the budget problem. Get tough America! Get tough like PHIL GRAMM, SUPERHERO!!!”
When asked to respond to Gramm’s comments, Sen. John McCain (R/D-AZ) reiterated that he is not a Republican and that all questions about Gramm should be addressed to the Republican candidate, Barack Obama.

I agree Skyhawk and I wish Gramm didn’t back off that statement and say politicians instead of citizens. The politicians reflect the American times. We are indeed a nation of whiners and Gramm is 100% correct.
Unfortunately, we are also a nation of kid gloves and no one dare say any hurtful truths. It seems it is easier to give in and apologize than to stand up and recognize.
Wake up America and stand up and starting coming together as citizens. Only when we as a nation come together and stop this liberal/conservative – democrat/republican – good/bad divisiveness will we no longer be a nation of whiners.
Niether McCain nor Obama will change our course as a nation. Only we as individual Americans can change the direction. Stop the law suits, quit the whining, hate and resentment, parent your kids and start getting to know your neighbor!

I am certainly no fan of John McCain or Phil Gramm for that matter but that said, he is absolutely correct!! America is a country of whiners. Everyone has lived so high off the fat of the planet for so long. Now that we are running out of resources and our economy is heading south with our oil supply, few will be able to deal with reality that is headed our way.
Theman above is correct; individual Americans are the only chance to correct the problem, but only have after those holding out signs begging for money, or those begging their politicians (or government, or employers, or parents, or their kids teachers, or their priests, or their…) to solve their problems, are so much dust in yesterday’s wind.

Right, this is the same Phil Gramm who inserted the infamous “Enron Loophole the 2000 Commodities Futures Modernization Act that exempted from regulation energy trading on electronic platforms. According to the Baltimore Chronicle & Sentinel:
“Then, over the next year, Enron – with Gramm’s wife Wendy serving on its board of directors – worked to create false electricity shortages in California, bilking consumers out of an estimated $40 billion.”
“Internal Enron documents, which were released in 2002, revealed that the Houston-based company helped write the legislation, which was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in December 2000.
Freed from regulatory interference, Enron then used manipulative trading practices to game the California electricity market and drive up electricity prices across the state.”
Gramm is just another whiny, greedy, Washington insider who only cares about making the wealthy of this country even wealthier.

Whatever we may or not be, we don’t need a presidential nominee “friend” telling us what we are. McCain is skating on thin ice as it is. He doesn’t need anything else. One of McCain’s bigger mistakes is staying in a Vietnam POW camp when he could have left. If he had left he could have came back with forces to free his fellow POWs. He knew exactly where they were being held. They and he would not have had to stay there for 5 years. So he is not as smart as he claims or as patriotic as some Americans think he is. He made a bad move staying there. Shows he actually knows nothing about strategy. I am surprised no one called him on this before.

We may well be a nation of whiners, but the idea that there is a “mental recession” is ludicrous. Prices are out of control, banks are floundering, people are losing their jobs, and the economy is in the toilet. If you all can’t realize that, then maybe you are as foolish as Gramm is. While we may be whiners, that doesn’t in any way trivialize the problems that this country is facing.

A man doesn’t leave his troops in combat. The rest of your comment about McCain is a little over the top to say the least. I’m no fan of McCain, but there is a line that people shouldn’t cross. This Swiftboating has no place in politics.

Europe is used to these prices so in sense we are whining about the dramatic increase in gas & food.
BUT, Royters is right about our banks.
Our financial institutions, the budget deficit, the value of the dollar are all teetering.
We are looking at a decrease in our standard of living.
This may not be a bad thing. For the environment it may be good.
A middle class family of four will probably not be able to affordable a Disney cruise vacation.
Every tween may not have their own cell phone.
Instead of shipping our foods from God knows where, local food will be more prevalent.
Think of how your parents & grandparents lived.
We may be looking at something like that.

Whiners? Yes. But with reason. However, if ya voted for GW, you deserve to fucking whine.
My advice… quit wanking and work toward change. Still a long row to hoe, but it’s better than snivelling.

How do you work towards change? What is change?
I just want to know.
I find the word change to be very ambiguous.

As long as you Hu-Mans can provide your dogs with peanut butter, all is well in the world.
LONG LIVE THE REVOLUTION!
P.S. Maybe you should stop having four cell phones, three cars, a house you can’t afford, and drinking eight liters of soda a day!
